Comment:The water flea Daphnia pulex is commonly found in shallow ponds. This small Crustacean, less than 3 mm in size, is barely visible with the naked eye. Water fleas are an important and environmentally sensitive member of the food chain in ponds and lakes; they feed on algae and are in turn food for other animals such as fish or other small animals including Hydra.
